A Wisdom Tooth Emergency In Kuala Lumpur

Facing a medical emergency while travelling can be overwhelming. Here’s how I handled a painful, infected wisdom tooth in Kuala Lumpur — from finding the right dental clinic to a successful extraction at Teethos Dental Clinic in Chinatown.

Travelling full-time is all fun and adventure until life throws you a curveball. For us, that moment came during our time in Kuala Lumpur when I (Carol) started experiencing sharp pain on the right side of my face. Eating became a challenge, and after a few days of discomfort, it became clear: my wisdom tooth was getting infected.

Finding a Dentist as a Tourist

Being thousands of miles from home, I felt completely out of my depth. How do you find a trustworthy dentist in a foreign country? After hours of scrolling and sending countless WhatsApp messages, I finally landed on Teethos Dental Clinic in Chinatown. Their quick responses, detailed answers to all my questions, and fair pricing stood out. They even managed to fit me in for an appointment the very next day, a small win during an otherwise stressful time!

An Eventful Day

The day of the appointment was hectic. We had to check out of our apartment and move to a new one while trying to stay on top of things. My anxiety was through the roof, not just because of the procedure but also the rushed schedule. Still, I tried to keep smiling — it’s all part of the adventure, right?

To be honest, I was secretly hoping I wouldn’t need to go through with the extraction. Dental surgery wasn’t exactly in our travel budget, but since the pain wasn’t going away, I decided it was better to deal with it and move on.

The Experience at Teethos Dental Clinic

Walking into Teethos Dental, the first thing we noticed was the cleanliness, we even had to take off our shoes at the door! In no time, I was taken away for an X-ray. The machine made funky noises that reminded me of something out of Star Wars, and with my eyes closed, I could only imagine what was happening.

Next, we met Dr. Khoo. From the start, he was incredibly kind and professional, explaining every step of the process and answering all our (sometimes silly) questions. After signing the consent form, it was time to begin.

The Importance of Staying Connected

This wisdom tooth emergency was a real wake-up call for me about how important it is to have reliable mobile data while travelling. From searching for nearby dental clinics to booking an appointment and navigating unfamiliar streets, having internet access made a stressful situation so much more manageable.

We’ve been using iRoamly for our data throughout our trip, and in Malaysia, it’s been a game-changer. With fast and reliable internet for as little as $1 per day, staying connected has been easy and affordable. It’s easy to take being online for granted when everything’s going smoothly, but in moments like these, it becomes absolutely essential. Let’s just say I’ll never travel without an eSIM again, it’s such a small thing that makes a huge difference.

The Procedure

The only painful moment was the anaesthesia injection, which felt like a sharp pinch deep in my jaw. But after that, I barely felt a thing. The actual extraction was over in just 20 minutes! I felt some pressure and heard the unsettling sound of the tooth loosening, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d imagined.

When Dr. Khoo finally pulled the tooth out, I couldn’t believe the size, it looked like a shark tooth! They even cleaned it and gave it to me as a keepsake (yes, I kept it, it’s now a strange but special travel souvenir).

Post-Surgery Recovery

When we left the clinic, I felt relieved and surprisingly pain-free. Dr Khoo’s aftercare instructions were detailed and easy to follow, and a few days later, I was back to my normal self — no swelling, hardly any pain, just gratitude for such a positive experience.

A Huge Thank You

A big thank you to Teethos Dental Clinic, especially Dr. Khoo and the amazing staff, for their kindness and professionalism. If you’re ever in Kuala Lumpur and in need of dental care, I can’t recommend them enough!

We Conquered One Of The World’s Tallest Free Falls: Facing Fears In Nepal

Facing fears and embracing new challenges is one of the most thrilling parts of full-time travel. Jumping from the world's second-highest bungee platform in Nepal was a moment of pure adrenaline and empowerment for us both. Read on for our personal experience and how it became one of the most unforgettable adventures since we started our journey.

Quitting our 9-to-5 jobs to chase adventures in our early 20s was one of the scariest decisions we’ve ever made. It was terrifying, honestly. Walking away from secure paycheques, a comfortable routine, and those 25 days of annual leave to chase something uncertain? It felt risky, but we knew deep down that life was about more than sitting at a desk day after day. We wanted to see the world, push our limits, and prove to ourselves that even the things that terrify us can turn out to be life’s greatest joys.

That’s how our "Facing Fears" series on YouTube began — a way to push ourselves to embrace the scary, uncomfortable, and wild opportunities life throws at us. And what better way to kick things off than by diving into a cliff with a 228-metre free fall? Yes, we’re talking about the second-highest bungee jump in the world, located at The Cliff in Kushma, Nepal.

Bungee Jumping For The First Time - The Build-Up

Neither of us had done anything like this before. Sure, we’d done our fair share of hikes and adventures since hitting the road, but the idea of jumping off a suspension bridge into a massive canyon? That was a whole new level. As we booked our jump, we kept telling ourselves, “You’ve got this. It’s just one step.” But the nerves kicked in hard as we got closer to the date.

The drive from Pokhara to Kushma was equal parts scenic and nerve-wracking. We couldn’t stop thinking about the jump. Would we chicken out? What if something went wrong?

Arriving at The Cliff only added to the anticipation. The place itself is incredible — a well-run adventure centre sitting above a jaw-dropping gorge. But let’s be honest — we couldn’t think about photoshoots or enjoying lunch when we were gearing up to jump 228 metres with nothing but ropes holding us.

The Jump – A Moment of Pure Terror and Freedom

Carol’s POV

It was tough stepping into the pod without Max. They made him wait by the entrance to the bridge, so we couldn’t even hold hands before the jump. That’s when it really hit me—I was completely on my own. As I stood there, my mind started spiraling. What if I can’t do this? What if I freeze? But then the staff stepped in, and honestly, they were absolute legends. While they harnessed me up, we chatted and cracked jokes, and I actually started to feel more relaxed.

But then came the moment of truth. There was no turning back — literally. “No jump, no refund,” as they reminded us. My legs were shaking so much they felt like jelly, and I could barely control them. When it was time to shuffle toward the edge of the platform, I had to ask the bungee master to let me hold onto something just to move forward. The walk to the edge was brutal. Most of my trainers had to be hanging off the platform, and they yelled, “Don’t look down!” But of course, I couldn’t help myself. One quick glance, and I was panicking inside.

Still, the staff kept me focused, reminding me of what to do. Then the countdown started: “3, 2, 1… bungeee!” and that was it. I thought, Screw it, and jumped before I had time to overthink. The fall was terrifying and thrilling all at once, and for those few seconds, I felt completely alive. The fear disappeared, replaced by the purest adrenaline rush I’ve ever felt.

Max’s POV

Watching Carol go first was both inspiring and horrifying. She looked so determined, even with her legs shaking like crazy. When I saw her jump, I thought, “Alright, she did it, so now I have to.” But standing on that platform with nothing but a massive drop in front of me? That’s another story.

After Carol finished her jump, I was already getting strapped into the harness. Hearing her emotions right after was wild. She was a complete mess — laughing, crying, and trying to describe how intense it was. She even told me she cried on the way down, not just from fear but from the overwhelming adrenaline. It was so cool to hear her like that. It made me even more excited — but also more nervous.

The walk to the edge felt like the longest few steps of my life. I kept trying not to look down, but it’s impossible not to catch a glimpse — and that glimpse is enough to make your stomach drop. My mind was screaming, Why am I doing this?! But the bungee master’s voice cut through the chaos in my head. He counted down: “3, 2, 1… bungeee!” and I knew there was no other way but down.

I jumped, but it didn’t feel real at first. The free fall was terrifying — like my body forgot what gravity was doing to it. Then, as I sped towards the gorge, my senses caught up, and it hit me. The rush, the view, the complete aliveness of it all — I couldn’t stop smiling. It was scary, breathtaking, and hands down one of the best things I’ve ever done.

The best part? That rush of realisation as you’re dangling in the canyon: We actually did it.

Why This Was About More Than Just the Jump

This experience wasn’t just about bungee jumping. It was about proving to ourselves that we’re capable of more than we think. That the fears we build up in our heads often turn out to be the most rewarding things we can face.

Quitting our jobs and travelling full-time was a leap of faith in itself, but each adventure, like this one — reminds us why we made that decision. Life is meant to be lived, not just planned, and taking risks is what makes it exciting.
